Red Dot Art is delighted to announce that Mai Osawa's piece Chichester Cross has been awarded Best in Show.
The judges for this year's prize were Simon Waller, Head of Hahnemühle UK; Meg Green, Marketing Manager at Hahnemühle UK; industry-renowned Wuongean Ho, news editor of Printmaking Today and Diana McKenna, Cambridge Art and Design Tutor and printmaker.
This exciting and extraordinary exhibition of over 400 mini works of art includes work from professionals, amateurs, students of art and first-time printmakers and the gallery dates can be seen below. Entry to all exhibitions is free and all pieces are for sale with prices ranging from £20 - £300.
Winning printmaker Mai is a Japanese artist who trained as a set designer and is now based in the UK. Her winning piece was created using drypoint, an intaglio technique used in preparing metal plates for printmaking where lines are scratched directly into the plate. Thicker lines are made by applying more pressure to the burin (graver) or etching needle. To see more of Mai's work, why not visit her website. In agreement that the works submitted this year were of a very high standard and having scrutinised each and every submitted mini work of art, the judges are also delighted to award Honourable Mentions to 5 artists whose pieces were judged to be particularly exceptional. So congratulations also goes to (below, from left to right)...
...Alison Wagstaffe for Morning (collagrah with 23ct gold leaf); Geri Waddington for Owl (wood engraving); Chloe Cheese for Mementos (etching with stencil); Ian Brooks for Westfield Farm View (etching) and Caroline Whitehead for Small Creature on Stony Ground (waterless litho & etched litho).
